The prototype of this locomotive, the EU 43 class, was originally developed by Adtranz for the Polish State Railways (PKP). In 2001, the newly founded Italian private railway company Rail Traction Company (RTC) acquired all eight units for cross-border freight traffic, particularly on the Brenner corridor between Italy and Austria. The locomotive EU 43-007 is a jointly operated locomotive used by the companies Lokomotion and RTC, recognised by its distinctive livery featuring blue and red zebra stripes.
