在黑玫瑰之间

I stand among the dark roses in my pale gold gown and let the shadows do what
shadows do. The pearls lie cool against my throat, a small inheritance of someone
else's hope. I half turn, as if someone had spoken my name, but the room is only
flowers and dusk. My gloved hands hold nothing. I have dressed for an evening that
keeps not arriving, lovely and patient and quietly fading. The roses lean red and heavy
behind me. I lean toward the door.
