La Collada, in Asturias, was the first fluorite deposit mined in the region, discovered in 1904 by Felipe Valdés Menéndez-Corvera during the construction of a coal railway. What began as a chance find during track-laying grew into one of the three major fluorite districts of Asturias, worked in various phases into the late 1970s and responsible for much of the well-formed cubic fluorite associated with the region.
This is a substantial cluster of sea blue-green fluorite cubes with slight edge wear and excellent size.
