Venetian View
School: Italian (18th century)
Author: Circle of Canaletto
Style: Baroque vedutismo
Technique: oil on canvas
Measurements: 49 x 65 x 2,5 cm
Circle of:
Giovanni Antonio Canal, known as Canaletto (1697–1768), was one of the leading representatives of 18th-century Venetian vedutismo. His work is characterized by architectural precision, mastery of perspective, and a careful depiction of light, making him a fundamental reference in European urban painting. The term 'circle of Canaletto' encompasses followers and contemporaries who worked under his direct influence.
The composition depicts a Venetian port view, with a carefully crafted monumental architecture rising on the right side of the scene, likely a palace or institutional building, treated with strict perspective and subdued chromatic tones. In the foreground, several popular figures are gathered near the dock, adding dynamism and human scale to the scene. On the left, a sailing vessel navigates close to the shore, reinforcing the maritime and commercial character of the city.
The sky, broad and atmospheric, displays a subtle gradation of clouds filtering the light, creating soft contrasts and reflections on the water. The brushwork is restrained and precise, with particular attention to architectural drawing, following the standards of 18th-century Italian vedutismo, where topographical fidelity is combined with scenic idealization.
The pictures are part of the condition description. There are three very tiny painting layer losses.
Exceptionally, shipping costs may be affected by an additional charge due to reasons such as being outside a continental territory, excess measurements, or weight of the item. Under no circumstances these additional charge will be coverd.
The works are shipped without insurance. If you wish to request insurance for the work during transportation, you must contact us in advance via private message. If not requested, we will not be responsible for any damages that may have occurred during transit.
