Pre‑Columbian Chimu Textile Fragment – North Coast of Peru
The piece displays two large anthropomorphic figures rendered in a deep red tone against a buff ground.
Each figure is shown with raised arms, geometric bodies, and distinctive headdresses—one stepped, the other crown‑like—typical of Chimu ceremonial iconography.
Below the figures runs a sequence of horizontal colour bands in red, black, and tan, ending in a section of original fringe, a feature often associated with garments or decorative hangings.
Time period: Ca. 1000 - 1200 AD
Dimensions: 20 x 18 cm
Provenance: purchased at a German auction - with copy of German export license
