賣家描述
Max Slevogt (1868-1932)
Scene from Goethe's FAUST. 1925.
Lithograph on China paper. We believe it has been retouched in pencil or charcoal in some areas. Possibly an early version with a sketch of the final lithograph. RARE.
Paper mounted on cardboard.
50 copies were published by Cassirer, Berlin, 1925. This one, most likely unique.
Hand-signed by the artist.
Catalogue raisonné: Söhn 815.
Sheet size: 45.5 x 24.5 cm. Mounted on cardboard.
Extraordinary condition for China paper, which is always fragile. Small cut outside the print, restored, at the base of the paper, imperceptible.
Along with Max Liebermann and Lovis Corinth, he formed the celebrated triumvirate known as the "triumvirate of German Impressionism," leading the country's artistic avant-garde at the beginning of the 20th century. However, towards the later stages of his career, his quick and energetic brushstrokes showed a clear evolution towards Expressionism.
