賣家描述
Porridge spoon – Ethiopia – Wood – Mid-20th century
Origin: Ethiopia
Material: Wood
Length: 27 cm
Period: Mid-20th century
Provenance: Collected in situ by the present owner in the early 1990s
A fine Ethiopian wooden porridge spoon, of a classic vernacular type appreciated for the clarity of its form and the beauty of its old surface.
This example is especially attractive for its strong geometric construction. The bowl is broad and gently rounded, while the handle extends in a long, tapering line ending in a pointed terminal. The underside is structured by a continuous longitudinal ridge running along the full length of the spoon, giving the piece both visual rhythm and a quiet sculptural tension.
The appeal here lies in the economy of means: no added ornament, only the precision of the carving and the balance of the proportions. The result is a utilitarian object with a distinctly abstract quality, shaped by use and refined by time.
The wood has developed a beautiful old usage patina, with soft wear and handling marks consistent with age. The surface remains warm and lively, reinforcing the elegance of the silhouette.
A very attractive Ethiopian spoon, appreciated for its honest age, its restrained geometry, and its strong decorative presence.
Condition
Wear, abrasions, and surface irregularities consistent with age and use. Good overall condition. Please refer to the photographs.
Included
The spoon only.
No stand included.
