This elegant bronze sculpture titled “Souri” (Twin Carp) was handcrafted in the renowned Takaoka bronze tradition of Toyama Prefecture, Japan.
The sculpture depicts a pair of koi swimming together, symbolizing harmony, prosperity, good fortune, perseverance, and a long-lasting partnership in Japanese culture. One carp is finished in a rich black patina while the other features warm golden bronze coloring, creating a beautiful visual contrast.
Takaoka bronze ware has been produced for more than 400 years and represents over 90% of Japan’s bronze casting production. Each piece is created through a highly specialized process involving master craftsmen responsible for modeling, mold making, casting, chasing, engraving, and patination.
This sculpture is made of cast bronze with finely detailed scales, natural body curves, and an elegant traditional finish. It comes with its original wooden title plaque.
