Rosemarie Benedikt began her training at the Viennese fashion school Hetzendorf with the textile design department. After five years of training from 1954 to 1959 she was selected from several applicants to work for the porcelain factory Rörstrand in Lidköping. Here, for the first time, she came into contact with this material, which became decisive for her further artistic career. Until 1964 she worked as a designer for the manufactory in Sweden. After her return to Vienna, she was appointed lecturer at the University of Applied Art, where she taught as an assistant professor there from 1975 to 2000. Since the mid-1970s she has her own studio in Vienna. In 1987 and 1988, she completed her studies at the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle. Since 1993, she has been working as a designer for Villeroy & Boch. Beginning in 2006, in addition to their original porcelain figures, they also built some monumental glass sculptures in Murano. In 2005, her work was awarded the Austrian Cultural Prize.

Numerous works are located in museums and private collections in Germany and abroad.

From 1993, Rosemarie Benedikt completed numerous study trips. In 1993 she lived as an artist in Residence in Fujino, Japan and traveled to Taiwan. 1997 and 2000 she was in Mexico and 2004 on the occasion of the anniversary 1000 years of porcelain in China. Since 2006, she has been spending time on Murano and working in the glass world at the renowned glass factory Berengo Fine Arts.
