Kozo Kato is one of the leading ceramic artists of Mino ware, highly regarded for his Shino and Setoguro works. He was designated a holder of Important Intangible Cultural Property, commonly known as a Living National Treasure in Japan.
This sake cup features a beautiful Shino glaze with a soft pinkish tone.
The thick glaze surface shows fine crackles, natural glaze variations, and kiln effects, giving the piece the warm and powerful character typical of Shino ware.
The surface also shows reddish firing tones and bluish-grey to brown kiln variations, making this small work visually rich and attractive.
