Qajar engraved copper ewer (Aftaba) – 24 cm – Late 19th / Early 20th century
Description
A finely engraved copper ewer (Aftaba) dating to the late Qajar period, circa 1880–1920.
The ewer features a classic pear-shaped body with a long flared spout and a ribbed handle. The entire surface is richly hand-engraved with floral arabesques, birds, courtly figures, and a decorative band of calligraphy around the neck.
The interior is tinned, as traditionally found on water ewers, while the exterior displays an attractive natural patina acquired over time.
This is a decorative and collectible example of traditional metalwork from the Qajar period.
Condition
Good overall antique condition with age-related wear, surface oxidation, and patina consistent with age and use. No visible major cracks or structural repairs. Please refer to the photographs, which form part of the description.
