賣家描述
Indus Valley Mehrgarh Spouted Vessel – 4th to 3rd Millennium BC
A remarkable Mehrgarh terracotta spouted vessel from the Indus Valley, dating to the 4th to 3rd Millennium BC. This substantial example features a globular body, a wide everted rim, a single loop handle, and a long tubular pouring spout, a practical form associated with the controlled dispensing of liquids. Handmade from fine terracotta, the vessel displays the simple yet highly functional aesthetics characteristic of the early farming communities of Mehrgarh, one of the oldest archaeological sites in South Asia and a direct precursor to the Indus Valley Civilization. The surface retains an attractive archaeological patina with visible wheel and finishing marks, while ancient mineral deposits further enhance its authenticity and age. A small historic restoration is visible on the rim, but the vessel remains an impressive and increasingly scarce example of Chalcolithic ceramic craftsmanship from one of humanity’s earliest settled cultures.
Material: Terracotta
Height: 30 cm
Weight: 3.2 kg
Provenance: Danish private collection, acquired in Germany in the 1950s.
