賣家描述
exceptional hematite-fossilized ammonite assemblage(Thanatocenosis)– 白垩纪
This extraordinary Cretaceous ammonite assemblage represents a rare natural thanatocenosis, preserving multiple ammonites within their original matrix. The composition is dynamic and organic, with overlapping shells of varying sizes naturally accumulated in an ancient marine environment.
The ammonites are fossilized in hematite, giving them their characteristic deep black coloration with a metallic sheen. This mineralization enhances both the visual impact and the state of preservation. On the largest specimen, a very well-visible trace of pyrite is present, adding a striking golden contrast against the dark hematitic surface.
Several specimens clearly show growth lines and well-defined sutures, testifying to the quality of preservation and offering valuable paleontological detail. The combination of polished surfaces and areas retaining natural matrix creates a compelling contrast between refinement and authenticity.
The preparation has been carefully executed to reveal the forms without compromising the integrity of the piece. The balance between exposed fossil surfaces and surrounding matrix preserves the geological context while emphasizing the sculptural presence of the assemblage.
The result is a specimen of strong visual and scientific appeal — equally suitable for a serious fossil collection, museum-level display, or as a dramatic natural sculpture in a refined interior setting.
A remarkable and powerful composition combining rarity, aesthetic impact, and paleontological significance.
