【Features】
This tetsubin presents the distinctive ume (plum blossom) shaped body — a refined form associated with Kyoto's finest iron kettle tradition. The lobed silhouette gives the piece an elegant, sculptural quality rarely seen in standard cylindrical forms.
The copper flat lid is fitted with an ornate brass openwork ball finial, featuring a chrysanthemum disc at center, mounted on a cast lotus-petal base. This type of decorative finial is a hallmark of high-quality Kyoto iron kettle craftsmanship from the Meiji period.
The Ryubundo signature is clearly engraved on the interior of the lid — one of the most important authentication markers for serious collectors. Ryubundo (龍文堂), founded in the Edo period and based in Kyoto, is widely regarded as one of Japan's most prestigious tetsubin workshops. Authentic signed pieces are increasingly rare on the international market and are actively sought by collectors across Europe and North America.
The exterior surface retains its original sand-cast iron texture with a deep, naturally aged patina — the kind of surface quality that only develops over more than a century of use and rest.
