Story & Heritage
The Citizen Bullhead is one of the most iconic Japanese automatic chronographs of the 1970s, a period when Citizen was producing robust, technically interesting and visually bold sports watches for a rapidly changing market.
The “Bullhead” nickname comes from the unusual position of the crown and chronograph pushers at the top of the case, resembling the horns of a bull. This configuration was not only visually striking, but also practical, giving the chronograph a more instrument-like feel and improving wrist comfort during timing operations.
During the golden era of mechanical chronographs, Citizen developed watches that could compete with some of the most respected Swiss and Japanese manufacturers of the period. The automatic chronograph movement, day-date functionality, tachymeter scale and strong case architecture made the Bullhead a true tool watch for drivers, sports enthusiasts and collectors.
Today, these Citizen Bullhead chronographs are increasingly appreciated for their bold design, mechanical complexity and unmistakable 1970s identity. Examples with attractive panda-style dials, original bracelets and honest aging are especially desirable among vintage chronograph collectors.
This watch is more than a practical timepiece — it is a symbol of Citizen’s innovative spirit and of an era when automatic chronographs were designed with personality, purpose and technical ambition.
A wonderful opportunity to acquire a vintage Citizen Bullhead Automatic Chronograph with strong character, original bracelet and unmistakable collector appeal.
