Intact plate with preserved dark silver oxidation.
PROVENANCE
Acquired from the Ahmadi collection, Kuala Lumpur, Malesia. This collector had houses and had his extensive collection of near eastern antiquities and Asian art in Kuala Lumpur, Malesia and Bangkok, Thailand. Before that previously from a Japanese Private Collection, acquired 1980 to 2000. Formerly in a Japanese Private Collection, acquired during the 1970`s-1980`s. Acquired in the late 1970`s, Kyoto, Japan.
DESCRIPTION
Sasanian Silver-Gilt Plate with Royal Hunting Scene, D.24,0cm, Iran, 4th-5th Century AD
The interior decorated in relief with a king, depicted reclining on a low couch, wearing a double ram's horn crown surmounted by a globe, with flowing streamers, seated with one leg bent, wearing a tunic over loose trousers, facing towards an attendant bearing a large feather fan and wearing a long tunic and boots, the king gazing at a hunt scene of a lion attacking an antelope, another antelope fleeing in the foreground, with engraved vegetation.
