This classic mountain landscape colour woodblock print is by leading Sōsaku-hanga (創作版画) artist Nozaki Shinjiro. This print is an official work commissioned by Pfizer Japan in 1982.

Nozaki Shinjiro was active from the Shōwa era through the Heisei era. He was an important postwar Sōsaku-hanga printmaker. He regularly participated in the CWAJ Print Show, Nitten Exhibition and exhibitions held by the Japan Woodblock Print Association, winning multiple awards. He is one of the most representative landscape print artists of modern Japan.

The artist depicts nature with modern geometric compositions and distinct colour blocks. He simplified natural forms and emphasised colour gradations, establishing his unique Shōwa modern print style.

This work features Mount Hōki (伯耆大山), the landmark mountain located in the artist’s home prefecture of Tottori. In early spring, snow still lingers on the summit while fresh green sprouts emerge across the foothills.
The balance of cool and warm colours perfectly captures the tranquil, revitalising atmosphere of the early spring mountain scenery. Known as “Hōki Fuji”, Mount Hōki remained the artist’s most important recurring creative motif.

The print carries the artist’s pencil signature, red seal and limited edition number.

This piece was officially commissioned by Pfizer Japan as a commemorative gift in 1982. A complete set of original provenance materials survives: the original kraft paper storage box, handwritten illustrated pamphlet by the artist (including biography, creative notes and art commentary by critic Kamon Yasuo (嘉門安雄)), the official presentation letter dated Shōwa 57 (1982), plus the business card of the original recipient physician with inscriptions from Shōwa 59 (1984). These documents fully document the original distribution chain and provenance of the artwork.

Supplied in its original wooden frame, without glass panel. The frame bears scuffs and minor impact marks. Due to age, the washi shows slight natural toning. Overall condition is good relative to its age.
