Takayama Keyaki Kogei, Zelkova Wood Three-Drawer Cabinet

飛騨高山 Hida-Takayama is one of Japan's foremost centers of woodworking, carrying on the legacy of the "Hida no Takumi," skilled carpenters sent from this region to build the capital as far back as the Nara period. This three-drawer cabinet by 高山けやき工芸 Takayama Keyaki Kogei was carefully made in that same woodworking tradition, crafted from solid zelkova (keyaki), a wood prized in Japanese furniture and architecture for its hardness, durability, and striking, distinctive grain. Over the years, the wood has deepened into a rich amber tone, and its warm color pairs beautifully with the dark, understated black metal corner fittings, giving the piece the substantial, dignified presence typical of Japanese tansu cabinetry.

Perfect as a keepsake box for keys, jewelry, cherished letters, or treasured photographs, it also stands beautifully on its own as a quiet decorative accent. Simply displayed, it brings a touch of authentic Japanese beauty to any room.
