Kyme was one of the foremost cities of ancient Aeolis, situated on the western coast of Anatolia. A major member of the Aeolian League, it prospered through agriculture, maritime trade and access to the fertile Hermos valley. Kyme issued extensive silver and bronze coinage and remained influential through the Archaic, Classical and Hellenistic periods, later passing under Roman rule while retaining its importance as a regional center.
