Lola ローラ｜Funakoshi Yasutake 舟越保武(ふなこしやすたけ)

This female bronze sculpture model is said to be Lola, the daughter of an economist whom Yasutake Funakoshi became friends with when he visited Seville, Spain.
He was a sculptor representing post-war Japan. He formed a lifelong friendship with sculptor Churyo Sato, whom he met during his days at Tokyo Fine Arts School, and together they led the post-war Japanese sculpture world.
After graduation, he began making marble sculptures and released numerous works that attracted attention. In particular, his production based on Christian faith and the martyrdom of Christians was unmatched by others.
Although he suffered a cerebral infarction in 1987 and became paralyzed on the right side of his body, he continued to create works with his left hand until shortly before his death.

2002: Passed away (aged 89)
