I stand where night has always lived, dressed in a language no single country owns - panels of colour that argue and then reconcile, silk remembering every hand that ever dreamed it into being. Three black cats hold the corners of my silence. The trees have turned the colour of deep water, round and calm as held breath. Behind me the moon offers itself without asking anything in return. I hold the fan like a question I have already answered. My face is quiet because the ache has been here long enough to become familiar.
