Vintage marble and precious stone chessboard – 40 × 40 cm – XX Century

Magnificent and scenographic vintage chessboard in solid marble, characterized by a refined top created by juxtaposing numerous varieties of natural marbles and hard stones, selected for color, veining and contrast.

The playing field consists of 4 × 4 cm squares, in which the glossy black surfaces alternate with lapidary inserts in extremely diverse chromatic palettes: reds, pinks, yellows, greens, grays and browns create a richly unique whole. Particularly captivating is the malachite square, immediately recognizable by the spectacular concentric green bands.

Each insert features veining, inclusions and color variations typical of natural stone: precisely this heterogeneity constitutes the main aesthetic merit of the object, transforming the chessboard into a true decorative piece for the table.

The wide glossy black perimeter frame gives the top an elegant and monumental appearance, while the light border precisely delineates the playing field.

The chessboard measures 40 × 40 cm and weighs about 6.7 kg, a weight that testifies to the solidity and robustness of the structure. The back is entirely lined with black felt, to protect the surfaces on which it rests.

It comes with a set of wooden pieces in two contrasting tones, but the magnificent stone top is undoubtedly the real protagonist of the ensemble.

Condition

Vintage item with normal signs of time and use. A previous repair at one corner of the chessboard is noted, clearly documented in the photographs. The repair is stable and, in normal overall view, only slightly evident; it becomes more noticeable when looking at the surface under certain light reflections and is visually absorbed by the natural veins and the great color variety of the top.

The chessboard appears overall solid, stable and of great aesthetic impact.
