賣家描述

Pamphylia, Aspendos – AR Stater – Wrestlers / Slinger – 380-330 BC

Significant Silver Stater from Aspendos, Pamphylia.
This iconic coinage of the 4th Century BC represents one of the most famous and recognizable types of Greek numismatics, celebrating the athletic prowess associated with the region.
This is an extraordinary example of one of antiquity’s most iconic coins. Unlike many specimens that are worn or flat, this piece boasts a brutal, high-quality strike for its age, preserving most of the details that are often lost.

Technical Data:

Origin: Pamphylia, Aspendos.
Material: Silver (AR).
Denomination: Stater.
Date: Circa 380–330 BC.
Weight: 10.01 grama
Diameter: 23mm

Iconography:

Obverse: Two nude wrestlers grappling, holding each other by the arms. The scene is full of dynamic tension, a masterpiece of classical Greek realism.

Reverse: A slinger (sphendonetes) standing right, in a wide stance, preparing to discharge his sling. To the right, a triskeles (three-legged symbol) is typically visible. The ethnic legend ΕSΤFΕΔΙΙΥS (in local Pamphylian script) is present in the left field.

Historical Significance:
The Triskeles symbol, clearly visible on this coin, was an ancient emblem of progress and victory. Finding a stater with such a sharp strike and clear symbols is becoming increasingly rare on the market.

A rare opportunity to acquire a centerpiece for any serious ancient coin collection.
