This is a cylindrical flower vase (hanaire 花入) produced by the well‑known Bizen‑yaki (備前焼) kiln workshop Konishi Toko (小西陶古). Made from local Bizen clay using the traditional Bizen wood‑firing technique, no glaze is applied. Natural kiln‑effect texture is formed entirely by flame exposure and ash deposition during firing.
The upper section of the vessel features neatly hand‑turned horizontal ribbed cord lines. The tall cylindrical form is upright, with restrained clean lines and minimalist shape.

Without artificial ornamentation, the piece embodies the wabi‑sabi aesthetic: quiet austere beauty formed by natural firing traces and earth‑toned clay. Varied hues and spontaneous surface texture express the Japanese philosophy of finding beauty within natural imperfection and the patina of time. It is a high‑grade decorative flower vessel well‑suited for tea ceremony and ikebana spaces.

The base bears the kiln‑workshop mark of Konishi Toko.

The original tomobako paulownia storage box bears hand‑written ink calligraphy “Bizen Hanagoto (備前 花生)”, together with the kiln workshop’s hand‑inscription and red seal on the box lid. This lot is complete with original tomobako box, factory pottery leaflet (tōreki 陶歴) and original yellow silk cloth. It possesses both display appeal and collectible value.

The item bears natural wood‑firing marks and age‑related patina accumulated over time. No cracks, no repairs. Minor inherent firing burrs are visible on the rim and base, alongside tiny natural clay pitting across the body; these are typical characteristics of Bizen wood‑fired pottery. The original paulownia tomobako box shows normal dust deposits and age‑related wear. Overall good vintage condition relative to its age.
