Antique 1902 Ernst Leitz Wetzlar Brass Microscope – Serial No. 65108
Offered for sale is an original, authentic antique Ernst Leitz Wetzlar brass medical microscope, serial number 65108 (last digit slightly faded by time). According to the official historical Leitz production archives, this specific serial number dates this exceptional instrument back to late 1902.
This is a genuine, high-quality early 20th-century scientific instrument made by one of the world's most respected optical manufacturers, Ernst Leitz Wetzlar (later Leica).
Markings & Authenticity:
• Manufacturer: E. Leitz Wetzlar (Germany)
• Serial Number: 65108 (engraved on the base)
• Eyepiece / Ocular: Included, marked 10×
• Original Leitz Objectives Included: Original antique lenses marked "3 E. Leitz Wetzlar" and "7 E. Leitz Wetzlar" mounted on a rotating triple nosepiece revolver.
Condition Details:
The microscope is in good, untouched antique condition considering its historical age of over 120 years.
• The heavy cast-iron base and brass body show a beautiful, natural dark patina with authentic signs of age, minor tarnish, and historical lacquer oxidation spots.
• The rack-and-pinion coarse focus adjustment mechanism is fully functional and moves the tube up and down via the side wheels.
• The triple revolving nosepiece rotates properly.
• The stage is complete with both original metal slide clips.
• The original rotating dual-sided mirror is present and turns freely.
Please note the defects:
• The black rim of the 10x eyepiece shows a small chip/notch on the edge (as seen in the photos), but the inner glass lens remains intact.
• The flat side of the mirror is clean, but the magnifying side shows some normal age-related surface scratches and marks.
• The optics have not been professionally tested for modern laboratory precision; therefore, this instrument is strictly sold as a historic, antique scientific collectible. No wooden box/case included.
