Krishna Dancing (Kaliya Mardana) – a symbol of the victory over evil
The monumental solid golden bronze sculpture is depicting Krishna in his dancing pose, subduing the serpent Kaliya, an emblematic scene from Hindu mythology symbolising harmony and divine order, the equivalent of the Saint George slaying the dragon.
The piece is standing out for the dynamism of its composition, its elegant proportions, and the fine sculptural detailing, from the elaborate crown to the base decorated with a serpent motif.
Dimensions: height 160 cm (excluding base)
Weight: approx. 80 kg
Material: bronze
Provenance: traditional Indian workshop, private Bucharest collection, acquired in the
early 2000s, imported through the Indian Embassy/ Indian-Romanian Chamber of
Commerce
