Introduction

Presented here is a distinctive CITIZEN OXY Chronograph, reference 6850-L10071, powered by Citizen’s multifunction Caliber 6850 quartz movement.

The watch has a particularly characteristic 1990s design, combining a silver-tone dial, contrasting black sub-dials, colorful function indicators and a tachymeter bezel in a remarkably slim case. Despite its approximately 37.4 mm diameter and 8.6 mm thickness, the watch incorporates numerous functions including chronograph, calendar, alarm and local-time displays.

A new battery and a new black strap have been fitted, making the watch ready for immediate use.

The OXY series represents an interesting period in Citizen’s design history, when the brand combined multifunction quartz technology with comparatively slim and unconventional case and dial designs.

The Caliber 6850 is particularly appealing to collectors of 1990s Japanese watches because of its unusually complex all-analog display. Instead of relying on an LCD screen, its various modes and functions are indicated through multiple hands and sub-dials.

Based on the case-back serial number 432031, together with the known production period of this model family, this example is believed to date from approximately March 1994. This dating should be regarded as an informed estimate rather than an official manufacturer-issued production certificate.

Its technical-style dial, exposed function diagram, tachymeter bezel and multiple pushers give the watch a very distinctive period appearance that is increasingly difficult to find in comparable condition.

Condition

This is a pre-owned vintage watch and shows normal signs of age and previous use.

The stainless-steel case and case back have scratches, small marks and other wear consistent with a watch of this age. Please examine the photographs carefully, as they form an important part of the condition description.

The dial retains its highly distinctive original-style appearance with black sub-dials and red/purple function markings.

A new black strap has been installed.

The watch is currently running with a new battery.

Important functional note:
The calendar date can be adjusted, but during testing we were unable to change the month indication. It has not been determined whether this is due to the operating procedure or an issue with the watch itself. The watch is therefore offered with this point clearly disclosed, and bidders should take this into consideration before bidding.

No claim is made regarding current water resistance. Because this is a vintage watch, water resistance should be professionally tested before exposure to water.

Service History

A new battery has been installed and the watch has been checked for operation.

A new strap has also been fitted.

The calendar date adjustment has been confirmed to operate; however, as stated above, the month adjustment could not be confirmed during our test. No guarantee is therefore made regarding the month-setting function.
