A fine Kenyan snuff container, attributed to the Kamba, made from horn with a wooden base, aluminium pegs, a small wooden stopper and a suspension chain.
Containers of this type belong to the personal equipment used for carrying powdered tobacco snuff or related substances. Small, portable and carefully made, they were intimate objects intended to be worn, handled and preserved over time.
This example is especially appealing for its elegant curved form. The dark horn body has a long, slightly flaring silhouette, almost sculptural in profile. The surface shows a deep black-brown patina, with lighter rubbed areas and traces of handling consistent with use.
