This cast bronze amulet is modelled in the form of a gladius, the iconic short sword of the Roman army. The distinctive spherical pommel, short grip, and tapering blade closely resemble the standard sidearm carried by Roman legionaries during the Imperial period. The perforation through the blade indicates that the object was intended to be suspended or worn as a pendant.

Miniature weapon amulets were popular throughout the Roman Empire and served as symbols of strength, courage, protection, and military identity.
