## Item Description

This is a **vintage Kutani ware (Kutani-yaki) guardian lion / Shishi ornament** from the **Showa period (1926–1989), Japan**.

The imposing Shishi is depicted in a dynamic seated pose and is richly decorated in the highly ornamental style associated with Kutani ware. Its body features a deep reddish-brown ground complemented by elaborate floral motifs, scrolling patterns, and vivid accents of red, blue, green, white, and black. Generous gold-colored detailing highlights the mane, facial features, tail, claws, and decorative elements, giving the piece a luxurious and striking appearance.

The expressive face, open mouth, prominent teeth, curled mane, and large flame-like tail give the guardian lion a powerful presence. A decorative **red braided cord with large tassels** hangs from the mouth, further enhancing its traditional Japanese character and impressive appearance.

In Japanese culture, Shishi guardian lions have traditionally been associated with **protection, warding off evil, and good fortune**, and have long been appreciated as auspicious decorative objects.

The underside bears **two different marks, including the characters “Sosen” (双仙) and “Kutani” (九谷)**. One is a three-dimensional impressed mark, while the other appears to have been applied using a seal or stamp. Please refer to the photographs for the form and details of these marks.

The **“Sosen” (双仙) mark** is clearly visible on the piece; however, its precise attribution to a particular artist or kiln has not been independently verified, so it is presented here as the mark found on the work rather than as a definitive artist attribution.

As this is a vintage piece from the Showa period, minor signs of age, use, surface wear, or firing irregularities may be present. Please carefully review all photographs, as they form an important part of the description and provide the best indication of the item's condition.

As this is also a fragile ceramic item, careful and secure packing will be given the highest priority to help ensure safe transportation.

The estimated delivery time by Surface Mail is approximately 2 months. Please note that delivery may take longer or shorter depending on customs procedures and processing by the local postal service.

With Surface Mail, tracking information may remain unchanged for an extended period while the parcel is traveling by sea. This is normal. Tracking will generally resume once the parcel reaches the destination country and is received and processed by customs or the local postal service.

The item will be packed with ample protective cushioning materials and with the utmost care to minimize the risk of damage during international transportation.

For certain countries and regions where Japan Post Surface Mail is unavailable or where another shipping method is required, the parcel may be shipped by DHL or Yamato Transport instead. Regardless of the shipping method, particular care will be taken when packing this fragile ceramic item.

A DHL tracking number may be issued in advance. Please note that tracking information may not update until the shipping agent has received and processed the parcel for dispatch.
