A refined and exceptionally preserved example of Boeotian coroplastic art from the Hellenistic Period (4th – 3rd Century BC), produced in the celebrated workshops of Tanagra.

The figurine depicts the god Eros, winged and standing on a rectangular plinth. With his right arm, he cradles a lush cornucopia overflowing with fruits, while a high-relief rooster stands at his left side.

The iconographic pairing of Eros with the rooster—traditionally a gift of courtship and affection in Ancient Greece—combined with the cornucopia of prosperity creates an exceptionally rare variant, far more valuable and sought-after than conventional female Tanagra figures.

Provenance & Historic Pedigree
This artifact benefits from outstanding physical and historical documentation, securing its authenticity and enhancing its investment value:
Ex Augustin Cartault Collection (1847–1922): Distinguish Sorbonne professor, expert, and one of the premier late 19th-century French collectors of Greek terracottas.
Original Engraved Bookplate: The reverse of the figure bears Cartault’s original printed collection bookplate, overlaid with the period handwritten ink label: "Tanagra N° 28".

Physical Inventory Marks: Features the vintage golden label "406" on the reverse and the handwritten collection code "1481" preserved intact inside the hollow base cavity.

In remarkable structural and physical condition for a 2,300-year-old terracotta. Facial features, wing details, and drapery folds remain sharp and well-defined.
The head was reattached in antiquity / old stabilized conservative restoration. Absolutely free of modern recarving, modern plaster fills, or invasive restoration on the ceramic core. Natural soil patina and authentic surface wear consistent with age and burial.

From the prestigious Augustin Cartault Collection (1847–1922). Retains the original 19th-century engraved bookplate on the reverse, handwritten period label "Tanagra N° 28", label "406", and inventory number "1481" inside the base cavity.
