Rare Sculpted Stone Torso of a Draped Goddess (Tyche / Fortuna) with Attributes – Greco-Roman / Near East (c. 1st–3rd Century AD)
An intriguing stone sculptural fragment representing the upper body of a draped female deity, originating from the Greco-Roman or Hellenistic Near East (c. 1st – 3rd Century AD).
The figure is depicted wearing a draped tunic (chiton or himation), with clear female anatomical modeling at the chest. In her right arm, she supports a substantial, upward-pointing attribute decorated with a distinct cross-hatched / lattice pattern—recalling either a stylized knotty club (associated with Omphale / syncretic Fortuna) or a woven cornucopia. In her left arm, she holds a vertical cylindrical attribute, likely the shaft of a sceptre or ceremonial torch.
The reverse of the sculpture exhibits deep, rhythmically carved vertical channels to depict the falling folds of heavy fabric, demonstrating that the piece was originally executed fully in the round.
Technical Specifications:
Object: Sculpted stone torso / bust fragment of a deity
Culture / Style: Greco-Roman / Near Eastern Provincial Classical
Date: c. 1st – 3rd Century AD
Dimensions: 86 mm height | 357 g weight (solid, heavy stone)

Condition Report:
Authentic ancient fragment broken at the neck base, lower waist, and upper tips of the attributes.
Surfaces exhibit genuine ancient soil encrustations, calcification, and edge weathering consistent with long-term burial.
Completely free of modern recarving, recutting, or chemical consolidation.
