Rare Heavy Copper Kettle with Heraldic Stamp and Dovetail Seam – George III / Charles X Era (c. 1800-1830)
Up for auction is an exceptional and authentic heavy copper stove/fireplace kettle, a superb example of early 19th-century European metalwork (circa 1800-1830).
This piece clearly stands out from late 19th-century mass-produced examples due to two features of primary collector importance: a cold-stamped heraldic mark on the lid (depicting a lion rampant or similar mythological figure, the signature of a historic coppersmith workshop) and a stunning dovetail seam.
Historic Dovetail Seam: The back of the body clearly shows the original interlocking brazed joint of the copper sheet. This entirely handmade construction detail is the ultimate visual guarantee of authentic pre-industrial craftsmanship.
Heavy Forged Copper: The item boasts an extraordinary weight of 1.885 kg relative to its 23 cm diameter, testifying to the use of thick, high-quality sheets.
Cast Elements: Featuring an elegant gooseneck spout and a solid, fixed bridge handle. The lid is topped with a refined turned brass finial.
Total height: 30 cm
Length (including spout): 32 cm
Maximum body diameter: 23 cm
Net weight: 1.885 kg (Premium Quality)
The item is presented in completely original, "as-found" condition, a deliberate choice to preserve its commercial value and historical charm.
Bottom: Beautifully and originally blackened by period carbon and soot deposits from genuine use over open fires or cast-iron stoves.
Body: Displays a warm, rich natural patina. Minor, shallow surface dents and a slight mark at the base of the spout testify to the history of the piece without altering its aesthetic harmony.
Interior: Shows period limescale layering and traces of natural oxidation (verdigris).
This item is sold strictly as a decorative, art, and high-end collector's piece (not suitable for food or beverage use).
