Vintage 1965 Seiko Seikomatic-R 8306-8000 with serviced 30-jewel automatic and hand-winding movement, silver sunburst dial, new crystal and stainless-steel case.

Model History:

The Seikomatic-R was introduced in the mid-1960s as one of Seiko’s more refined automatic ranges, positioned above the brand’s everyday models and aimed at buyers looking for a slimmer, more sophisticated dress watch.

This reference 8306-8000, dating to August 1965, is powered by the 30-jewel calibre 8306A. Unlike many contemporary Seiko automatics, the 8306A combines automatic winding with auxiliary manual winding. It also uses a more elaborate reverser-wheel automatic winding system rather than Seiko’s familiar Magic Lever construction, helping to achieve a relatively slim movement profile.

The model is additionally recognisable by its framed day-date display, silver sunburst dial and the characteristic dolphin caseback emblem associated with Seiko’s water-resistant watches of this period.

Condition:

The watch is in attractive vintage condition. The stainless-steel case remains well defined, showing light traces of age and previous use.

The silver sunburst dial is well preserved for a watch from 1965, with clean printing, applied faceted hour markers and the original “SEIKOMATIC-R / DIASHOCK 30 JEWELS” designation clearly visible. Only light age-related marks can be seen under close inspection, especially near the rim of dial.

The watch is fitted with a new, scratch-free crystal and a new black leather strap.

The calibre 8306A movement has been recently fully serviced and is functioning correctly.
