Hormizd I Kushanshah ruled the Kushano-Sasanian realm across eastern Iran, Afghanistan and former Kushan territories. Initially subordinate to the Sasanian Empire, he rebelled against Bahram II and asserted greater independence. His adoption of the title “Great Kushan King of Kings” marked an ambitious claim to sovereignty and reflects the complex fusion of Sasanian and Kushan traditions in the region.
