Elegant French Silver Coin Purse – Belle Époque – France – 800 Silver – c. 1860–1910

An elegant French solid silver coin purse dating from the refined Belle Époque period, crafted around the turn of the 20th century.

The purse is made in 800 silver, confirmed by the French boar's head hallmark (Hure de Sanglier), a guarantee mark used for small silver articles. It also bears the original French maker's mark within a horizontal lozenge.

Its softly scalloped outline is enhanced by exceptionally fine engine-turned (guilloché) engraving, creating a shimmering wave pattern across both sides. The raised central cartouche is beautifully engraved with the original owner's initials "A B", surrounded by delicate Louis XVI-inspired floral ornamentation and elegant scrollwork.

The interior retains its attractive original blue silk-lined concertina compartments, allowing coins to be neatly separated. These small silver purses were fashionable personal accessories carried by elegant ladies during the Belle Époque and Edwardian era, often accompanying evening attire or kept inside a larger handbag.

The combination of crisp guilloché engraving, refined proportions and original interior makes this an attractive collector's piece as well as a beautiful object for display.

Good overall antique condition.
The silver remains bright with an attractive patina. Minor surface scratches and a few tiny age-related dents consistent with careful use. The original blue textile interior shows expected signs of age and wear while remaining complete and functional.
