Model History:

The Seiko Business-A was introduced during the mid-1960s as a refined automatic watch aimed at Japan’s growing professional class. Positioned above Seiko’s more everyday automatic models, the series combined understated business styling with comparatively sophisticated, highly jewelled movements.

This reference 8346-8000 dates from December 1966 and belongs to the short-lived 83-series family produced by Suwa Seikosha. Its calibre 8346A was closely related to the movement used in contemporary Seikomatic-R models and offered automatic winding, manual winding and a practical day-date display. With its slim profile, 27-jewel construction and framed calendar aperture, the Business-A represents an interesting and relatively uncommon chapter in Seiko’s mechanical development before the later 56- and 61-series movements became dominant.

Condition:

The watch is in very good vintage condition with visible signs of age and previous use. The stainless steel case retains its attractive original shape and defined lugs, with light scratches, small marks and areas of wear throughout. The case back also shows surface scratches consistent with its age.

The silver vertically brushed dial remains attractive and legible, displaying light scattered spotting and natural ageing. The hands show visible oxidation and age-related wear, while the applied hour markers and framed day-date aperture are well preserved. The original acrylic crystal has been polished and presents clearly, although minor remaining marks may be visible under close inspection. It is fitted with a new black leather strap.

The Seiko calibre 8346A has been fully serviced and is covered by a three-month functionality guarantee.
