Zippo - wing motif black cabochon - 袖珍打火機 - 金属

brushed silver-tone case, large sculpted wing ornament and glossy black cabochon-style accent immediately caught my eye. There’s honest wear and patina around the raised metalwork, but that heavy three-dimensional decoration gives it a strong handmade/custom feel that stands out nicely at auction.

[Appearance]

A striking Zippo lighter with a large three-dimensional wing motif applied across the lower front of the case.

The silver-tone ornament has deeply modeled feather details, scroll-like decoration and a glossy black oval cabochon-style accent. The edges of the case also feature a hand-worked, hammered-looking texture. I particularly like the contrast between the relatively simple brushed case and the heavy sculptural decoration—it gives the lighter a solid, jewellery-like presence in the hand.

There are scratches, rubbing, small marks, tarnish and discoloration from age and use. Darkening and patina are also visible in the recessed areas of the wing ornament and around its edges. On the positive side, these darker areas bring out the feather details nicely, and the raised ornament remains visually impressive.

The bottom is stamped “ZIPPO,” “BRADFORD, PA. MADE IN U.S.A.,” “H” and “11,” indicating August 2011 production.

The exact maker and material of the applied ornament cannot be confirmed from the photos alone.
