賣家描述
Namji Sculpture - Bonkor Region, Chad, incl stand.
The female wooden figure is transformed into a garment of jewelry by its exceptionally rich adornment. The dark-patinated body displays strong, angled limbs and a small, stylized head. Numerous strands of white, red, and blue beads encircle the neck, breast, arms, and legs; these are complemented by textile elements and a long, fibrous hanging that reaches the ground. The combination of carved body, beads, fibers, and jewelry creates a deliberately additive aesthetic: the figure appears less as a nude sculpture than as a clothed and cared-for person.
The attribution as Namji (Namchi/Dowayo) primarily points to northern Cameroon; the stated origin from Bonkor in Chad should therefore be understood as a collection or find provenance and should not be equated with the core area of Namji culture. Museum collections document comparable, richly beaded figures as female and fertility symbols. They could be worn by women longing for children and cared for like a longed-for child; their adornments sometimes resembled the jewelry of initiated women. The individual accumulation of beads, fibers, and other materials gave each doll its own unique story.
