Pair of Italian Rococo-Style Console Tables

Elegant matching half-moon consoles – Rococo style – 20th century

Beautiful matching pair of decorative console tables, designed in the Rococo tradition and characterized by rich ornamental workmanship. Both consoles feature a shaped half-moon top, an ivory/cream painted finish, gilded mouldings and delicate hand-painted floral decoration.

The front is richly embellished with carved and applied ornamental elements, including scrolls, rocaille motifs, shell forms and vegetal details. The elegantly curved cabriole-style legs terminate in richly carved scroll feet, giving the pair a highly decorative and theatrical appearance.

The tops are decorated with delicate polychrome floral compositions enclosed within painted ornamental borders. The combination of ivory, cream, white and gilded details creates a refined appearance typical of aristocratic Italian decorative furniture.

The matching pair is particularly attractive because of the consistency of its forms and decoration. They can be placed on either side of a doorway, mirror, central console or used as coordinated decorative furniture in an elegant interior.

Condition

Good vintage condition considering age, with visible signs of age and use.

The photographs show areas of loss to the gilding, abrasions, scratches and small losses to the finish along the edges of the tops and ornamental elements. Normal surface imperfections and wear to the painted decoration are also present, consistent with the age and handcrafted character of the pieces.

Some imperfections and signs of wear are particularly visible on the upper surfaces and edges, as documented in the photographs. The structures nevertheless retain their important decorative character and original aesthetic qualities.
