This flower vessel (花入) is created by Nozaki Masaji (野崎正二) of Kōga Tōgei, a master of Japanese Satsuma ware (薩摩焼). It is a classic decorative vase with polychrome and gold painting characteristic of Satsuma ware.

The glaze across the whole body features fine crackled crazing. The vase has a rounded and full form with a tapered neck and flared mouth. Gold bands decorate the rim and foot, and geometric gold patterns adorn the neck. Painted on the vase is a Japanese pastoral landscape: layered distant mountains, lush pine trees, a thatched farmhouse beside a wooden waterwheel, accented by streams and blossoms. In the lower left of the painting, there is the artist’s ink signature “Kinmasa (錦正)” with red seal. Rendered in ink brown, sepia and gold details, the composition has rich depth, typical of Satsuma ware polychrome gilded decoration.

Red handwritten kiln mark on base: Satsuma Kōga Tōgei (薩摩 锦江陶芸).

Comes with original paulownia wood Tomobako (共箱). The lid bears ink calligraphy “薩摩 花瓶”, signed “Kōga” with red seal. A yellow storage cloth is included, together with artist biography booklet and pottery leaflet. Complete set.

Due to age, the vase is in excellent condition, no hairlines, no repairs. The original paulownia Tomobako shows natural oxidation, dust and age-related wear. Overall good condition for its age.
