Kili is a unique photographic work by Dutch artist and photographer Pieter Bas Bouwman, created as part of his project Remembering Relics.

The photograph was made during a four-month period of fieldwork in southern Kenya, where Bouwman worked in close collaboration with members of the Maasai community. Remembering Relics explores the complex relationship between humans, wildlife and landscape, focusing on human-wildlife conflict and the increasing pressure on territories shared by people and animals.

In Kili, a monumental mountain landscape appears beneath an intense red-orange sky. The dark silhouette of the landscape contrasts sharply with the glowing field of colour above it, reducing the scene almost to an abstraction. The image combines the documentary origins of Bouwman's photographic practice with a more atmospheric and painterly interpretation of the landscape.
The photograph is printed on fine art paper, giving the image a rich surface and emphasizing the deep reds, dark earth tones and subtle colour transitions within the landscape.

The work is presented in a minimal black wooden frame, measuring approximately 55 × 30 cm. The understated black frame complements the dark silhouette of the landscape and creates a strong contrast with the intense red-orange tones of the photograph.

Kili is signed by Pieter Bas Bouwman on the reverse and is presented as a unique work.

Exhibition history
The Remembering Relics project has been exhibited at Haute Photographie Amsterdam and Haute Photographie Rotterdam.
The project was also presented in Pieter Bas Bouwman's solo exhibition Remembering Relics at Galerie Lissabon, The Hague.
