賣家描述

Property: Core-formed trefoil oinochoe (Wine Jug/Perfume bottle) Could still be used as perfume bottle!

Culture: Probably Phoenician

Date: 6th-4th century BC

Material: Dark blue glass with yellow and turquoise glass decorations.

Description
A glass juglet of characteristic form, crafted using the sand-core technique, with a squat, pear-shaped body that tapers to a small, recessed foot. It features a slender neck with a trefoil mouth of elegant proportions. An elegantly curved handle connects the lip tot he shoulder of the vessel. The surface is decorated with striking yellow and turquoise zigzag or feather, and band patterns on a dark blue background, applied with glass threads and then smoothed. The surface exhibits a well-preserved archeological body with natural mineral deposits and wear consistent with considerable antiquity.

The form and manufacture are representative of the first Phoenician glass production during the Iron Age and reflect the high standard of craftsmanship associated with the eastern Mediterranean workshops of the period.

Manuacturing method:
Molten glass was wrapped around a shaped clay-and-sand core fixed on a metal rod.

Authenticity
The present vessel is accompanied by LT Certification, supporting its authenticity following professional examination. As carried out by the German Laboratory Kotalla, which is just as renowned as, for example, the so called ‘Oxford Authentication’. This with the difference however that Laboratory Kotälla provides a detailed explanation of its method and test results, as you can see, unlike its British counterpart.

Provenance
The object has a well documented provenance demonstrating a well-established ownership history. The quality of its provenance enhances its scholarly interest and contributes positively to its market desirability.

Acquired from the so-called Kaufmann family collection in Germany, where the onochoe was acquired by the founder of the collection, E. Kaufmann, between 1975 and 1989. It was subsequently sold by the German antique dealer couple Anne and Dr. J. Christof Roselt. Dr. Roselt is best known for his appointment as director of the Bergisch Museum at Burg Castle, Germany, during which he played a pivotal role in developing and managing his cultural-historical collection.

We guarantee unconditionally the authenticity of this artefact, which is subject to our lifetime return policy on authenticity.

________________________________________
Following visual examination, the vessel is considered to be in very good overall condition for an archaeological glass object of this period. The body itself is perfectly intact. There are only some larger dents on the foot which may have been reattached.
