Rare deluxe edition of Café Man Ray Exhibition, produced by the G. Ray Hawkins Gallery in Los Angeles in 1986.
The work was conceived as an object-box / editorial assemblage devoted to Man Ray, closer to a collectible multiple than to a conventional exhibition catalogue. The square black redwood box measures 19.1 × 19.1 × 7.6 cm (W × D × H).
Only 403 examples of this deluxe edition were produced. An important detail: the colophon bears two signatures; one is by gallery owner G. Ray Hawkins, the other is Juliet Man Ray.
The box contains a Dada manifesto, letter from Timothy Baum, three pamphlets, a slide, two matchboxes, a matchbook object, 49 stamps, a lapel pin, a hand-painted porcelain mask and a “Sealed Object of Appreciation” in its still-unopened envelope.
