Genoese Marble Mortar in White Marble with Wooden Pestle – Italy, late 19th / early 20th century.
A refined and authentic ancient mortar in white marble, classic Italian artisanal craftsmanship of the Ligurian tradition (Genovese style), datable to the late 1800s and the first decades of the 1900s. The artifact was carved from a single block of natural stone, as evidenced by the warm veining and the historical marks of mechanical cutting and planing visible on the rough lower base. It features the four characteristic protruding lobes ("ears") arranged in a symmetric cross, historically used to lock the utensil in kitchen benches. A piece of great charm, ideal for folk art collectors, lovers of rustic antiques, or as an exclusive furniture element for historic kitchens. The lot includes its original wooden pestle, turned from hard wood, contemporaneous with the mortar, characterized by decorative lines carved on the handle and circular wear marks on the head.

Condizioni
Mortaio: In buone condizioni conservative vintage. Struttura solida e priva di crepe passanti o rotture strutturali. Presenta una bellissima patina d'uso con ingiallimenti naturali e macchie dovute all'assorbimento di oli alimentari nel tempo. Si segnalano lievi e normali segni di usura, spigoli smussati dal tempo e micro-sbeccature superficiali sui bordi delle orecchie (tutto visibile in foto).
Pestello: Presenta una vistosa ma stabile fessura da ritiro longitudinale sulla testa semisferica, dovuta alla naturale stagionatura e all'età del legno. Il pezzo mantiene la sua rigidità, ma si segnala per accuratezza.
