賣家描述
北齐–初隋时期陶器马蹬骑人塑像(约6世纪至7世纪初)
该陶塑人像 depicts a figure riding a horse. The horse has a slender body, upright limbs, and a slightly lowered head. The overall design is simple and concise, reflecting the rustic yet robust aesthetic style of Northern Qi pottery art. The rider sits upright on the horse, with a dignified posture, wearing a crown and holding what appears to be reins, showcasing the characteristics of medieval aristocratic regalia and equestrian culture.
The piece is made using pottery sculpting techniques. The proportions of the figure and the mount are harmonious, and details of clothing, tack, and other structural elements are still discernible. The surface shows natural soil stains, a grayish-white weathering layer, and traces of mineral deposits formed during long-term preservation. The pottery body exhibits a stable texture due to oxidation over time. Residual white slip and traces of paint suggest that it may have had a richer decorative effect in its original state. The overall patina is natural, and the degree of surface abrasion is consistent with the aging characteristics caused by long-term burial.
The Northern Dynasties period (386-581 AD) was a crucial stage in Chinese history for ethnic integration and cultural exchange. Horse-riding figurines, as an important component of the aristocratic burial system, reflect both the influence of northern equestrian traditions and the integration of Han Chinese ritual systems and military culture. These horse-riding terracotta figurines are commonly found in aristocratic tombs of the Northern Qi, Northern Zhou, and early Sui dynasties, serving as valuable material evidence for the study of medieval clothing, riding systems, and the development of terracotta sculpture art.
Preservation Status: The artifacts are generally well-preserved, with some surface wear, soil stains, flaking of the pottery slip, and natural weathering. Some details have been weakened due to long-term burial, but the overall shape remains clear. The natural aging marks on the surface demonstrate the historical texture developed over a long period of preservation.
Catawiki disclaimer: This object has been dated based on style by the seller . No further tests, such as, a TL test, lapidary tests, analysis of pigments or radiography scans have been conducted to check the integrity of the piece.
