Model History:

Universal Genève is regarded as one of the most important historic Swiss watch manufacturers, particularly admired for its chronographs, micro-rotor automatic movements and refined dress watches. Alongside its better-known complicated models, the company also produced elegant hand-wound watches distinguished by slim movements and carefully considered case and dial designs.

This two-hand dress watch reflects the geometric aesthetic of the period. Its softly squared stainless-steel case is complemented by a champagne-to-bronze fumé sunburst dial that changes noticeably according to the lighting and viewing angle.

The watch is powered by Universal Genève’s compact calibre 42, a slim 17-jewel manual-winding movement operating at 21,600 vibrations per hour.

Condition:

The watch is presented in good and attractive vintage condition. Its unusual champagne-to-bronze fumé dial is particularly appealing, displaying a light champagne centre that gradually darkens towards warm taupe and bronze tones around the perimeter. The radial sunburst finish creates a striking play of colour as the viewing angle and lighting change.

The dial is well preserved overall, with clear printing and an attractive combination of Roman numerals and slender baton hour markers. A noticeable area of discolouration or staining is visible in the upper-left section of the dial, together with some lighter age-related patina and small surface marks. The hands and applied elements show light natural ageing consistent with the age of the watch.

The softly squared stainless-steel case displays scratches, small marks and general signs of previous use. Its distinctive 1970s shape, broad upper surfaces and elongated lugs remain clearly defined.

The original acrylic crystal has been polished and remains clear and visually attractive. Some very fine residual surface marks or small imperfections may remain when examined closely or under strong light.

The stainless-steel case back displays scratches and normal age-related wear. The reference and serial numbers remain clearly legible. The original signed Universal Genève crown is present.

A new black leather strap has been fitted. The calibre 42 hand-wound movement has been fully serviced and is functioning correctly. A 3-month guarantee is provided on its operation.
