Year: 2026 (engraved on the base)
Technique: Polychrome terracotta, patina verde bronzo
Style: Metaphysical
Unique piece
Description
Polychrome terracotta sculpture - "Castore e Polluce" - Architectural totem with classical and metaphysical elements
Description for the Lot Card
Description of the work: Vertical totemic sculpture made of polychrome terracotta with green-bronze patina. The work unfolds within an architectural three-register structure, inspired by the iconography of the Dioscuri (Castore and Polluce), reinterpreted through geometric and symbolic forms in a metaphysical and classical aesthetic.
Structure analysis:
• Upper register (Vertex): Mannequin-like figure with an oval head and pleated drapery, topped by a classical-inspired temple.
• Central register: Two twin niches housing the acephalous torsos of the Dioscuri, depicted as essential archetypes and suspended.
• Lower register: Romanesque-classical arch containing a historiated shield, symbolic attribute of the twin brothers.
Technical details and materials:
• Type: Earth sculpture / desktop sculpture
• Material: Polychrome terracotta
• Finish: Green-bronze patina
• Style/Subject: Metaphysical painting and sculpture, mythological subject
• .
On the sides of the trunk there are alchemical inscriptions: the symbol of Saturn (lead, time, transformation of matter) and the globus crociger/Antimony (raw material, mastery of spirit over matter). These signs elevate the work to an hermetic object, where the myth of the Dioscuri — one mortal, the other immortal — becomes a metaphor for the alchemical duality between matter and spirit, visible and invisible.
Materials and Technique
Made in terracotta, the sculpture features a complex surface finish rich in texture and manual grooves. The polychrome finish stands out with a sophisticated deep green patina that simulates the natural oxidation of ancient bronze, giving the artifact an aura of antiquity and museal solemnity.
