Troas, Birytis.
Ca. 350-300 BC.
Trichalkon (Bronze, 19.9 mm, 5.59 g).
Obv: Head of Kabeiros to left, wearing pileos; above, two stars.
Rev: B - I / P - Y in two lines around downward club; all within wreath.
Reference: SNG Copenhagen 247-8. SNG München 168. SNG von Aulock 1502-3.
Birytis, a lesser-known city in the Troad, issued bronze coinage depicting Kabeiros, an enigmatic deity associated with protection, fertility, and mystery. His conical pilos reflected regional cults, while stars flanking his head suggested celestial significance. A club within a wreath symbolized strength and victory amid the political and military changes of the Hellenistic world.
