Vintage Japanese Ceramic Fukusuke Doll - Symbol of Good Fortune & Business Prosperity

Description
An endearing vintage Japanese Fukusuke okimono, traditional clay/ceramic figurine renowned as a powerful lucky charm.

Fukusuke is a legendary figure in Japan, celebrated since the Edo period. He is instantly recognizable by his distinctively large head, topknot (chonmage), and elongated earlobes (fukumimi), which traditionally symbolize immense wealth and good fortune. Clad in kamishimo (formal Edo-period samurai attire), he sits in a polite seiza (kneeling) position, bowing respectfully to welcome guests and luck.

In Japan, Fukusuke figurines are highly sought after by shop owners and homeowners alike. They are traditionally placed near entrances or cash registers to invite "Business Prosperity" and "Attracting Customers" , or in home alcoves (tokonoma) to ensure family well-being.

This particular piece features a beautifully plump, serene facial expression with lovely hand-painted details. It is a wonderful piece for collectors of Japanese culture, Asian art, or anyone looking to bring a touch of traditional Japanese luck into their space.
